The Red Barn began its existence in the late 1950’s as an antique store at 1317 Tropicana Ave. In the early 1960’s new owners converted it into a bar that became popular due to its proximity to the new university on Maryland Parkway. By the end of the decade, the bar had become a favorite entertainment spot for Las Vegas’ emerging gay community. The Red Barn closed in 1988 and owner Claude Howard donated its classic cocktail glass sign to the Allied Arts Council. Â Installed as part of the Neon museum on November 15, 2000.
